PROJECTS: Business Communication Course Works
Email Activity
During my Business Communication course, I had the opportunity to analyze and revise a formal email from a manager addressed to employees. In the first draft, I identified areas for improvement, focusing on tone, clarity, and structure. The second draft reflects my proposed revisions, incorporating a more professional tone and streamlined content. The final document includes my detailed explanation of the changes and their reasoning, showcasing my ability to provide thoughtful and effective feedback. This activity taught me the importance of balancing professionalism and clarity in workplace communication. I developed insights into tailoring tone and structure to ensure respectful and easily understood messages. The exercise enhanced my critical analysis skills, attention to detail, and understanding of professional writing standards. These abilities are essential for fostering clear and effective communication in a professional environment.
Team Presentation

During my Business Communication course, I participated in a team presentation where we acted as interns at JPMorgan Chase Bank and presented on communication barriers in business. Our team worked together to research and analyze various communication challenges faced by organizations, such as language differences, technological gaps, and cultural misunderstandings. We used slides and real-world examples to highlight the impact of these barriers on business operations and proposed solutions to improve communication in the workplace. This activity taught me the value of teamwork and clear, concise communication. It also strengthened my ability to present complex ideas in an engaging way while working collaboratively in a professional setting. These skills are crucial for navigating communication challenges and succeeding in a business environment.
Data Tracking Activity
During my Business Communication course, I conducted a data tracking activity using my October credit card statement to analyze and categorize expenses. I diligently recorded each transaction, noting the date, amount, category, and a brief description, ensuring that each expense was accurately captured. I then organized the raw data into clear categories, such as dining, transportation, and subscriptions, and calculated the total expenditures for each category. To visualize spending patterns, I created a bar chart that highlighted the distribution of expenses across different categories, making it easy to identify trends and compare spending areas. This activity taught me the importance of precision and organization in managing financial data and enhanced my ability to interpret data insights. By analyzing the data, I discovered that travel and food were the two highest-spending categories, prompting me to think about ways to reduce expenses in these areas. These skills are critical for making informed decisions and communicating financial information effectively in a professional setting, and they empowered me to set budgeting goals for the future.
Peer Reviews for the Activities
During my Business Communication course, I participated in peer reviews focused on the email revision and data tracking activities. For the email activity, I provided feedback on my peers' ability to refine tone, clarity, and structure in professional communication. I helped identify areas where their emails could be more concise and aligned with business communication standards. For the data tracking activity, I reviewed how my classmates organized and presented their financial data, offering suggestions to improve their analysis and visualizations, such as making charts more readable and highlighting key insights more effectively. The peer review process allowed me to enhance my critical thinking skills and learn from the strengths of others. Additionally, receiving feedback on my own work gave me valuable perspectives on how to refine my communication and data presentation. This experience helped me improve my ability to give constructive feedback while also learning to incorporate suggestions for better performance in future projects.
